We are so proud of these stitchers and want to share their creativity. New photos are added regularly, so check back often. If you see anything you like, give us a call. We'll point you in the right direction!.

Talk about a beautiful piece! Eileen wanted a firescreen for her living room so she chose these swans to needlepoint. We had our guy make this custom firescreen for her. It is made of cherry wood with beading to match the beading on the bookcases on either side of the fireplace.
Mark is one of our more accomplished stitchers. Tired of creating pillows, he decided to have this design made into a tray which he will use on his bar at his home in Savannah. Choosing a beautiful frame, Mark added felt on the bottom and lovely handles on two sides to complete his tray. He also used a thick glass to protect the needlepoint piece.
Jack, our newest "people greeter" at Twiggs, fell in love with this nice gentleman who was resting while his wife shopped. Jack is a poodle rescue and only weighed 5 pounds when we brought him into our home at age 7 months. He is now up to about 8 pounds and full of energy. He and our silver poodle Boudreaux love greeting customers and receiving treats during the day.
Thea, a former New Yorker, brought us this handsome calico cat to finish when she moved to Savannah. We decided it would make a terrific door stop and weighted it to make it heavy enough to keep a door open.
Stella is happy to show off this finished product. She began stitching the rug twenty years ago and plans to display it in a guest bedroom in her home. Her family is proud of her and so are we.
Our friend Jane is always stitching something new and exciting. Here she shows off a crab purse she plans to use -- or, she says, she may just give it away to someone special.
We love it when old friends drop by the shop and no-one was more excited to see Julie than Boudreaux.
Sue brought Tiny and Teenie is to see us recently. She is stitching their portraits on needlepoint canvases for stool covers. They need the stools to stand on so they can look out of the windows at home. Scroll down to see the first portrait of Teenie. Or is it Tiny?
The ladies of the Needlepoint Guild at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist are working away on their 3' x 8' rug for Mary's Chapel there. Many members have taken turns stitching this needlepoint piece. Some stitching one flower; others stitching more. They are now over half way through. We'll keep you updated on its progress. UPDATE: The ladies have finished stitching the rug and it has been shipped to the finisher. We can't wait to show you the completed rugh. Design by Alice Vantrease
Our good friend and customer Lois wanted to create a design for a chair at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Wilmington Island in memory of her late husband. Here is the canvas for the back of the chair. The seat features the same background design without the additional oval and artwork. When she finishes the pieces and they are mounted on the chair, we'll add a picture of the upholstered piece. by Alice Vantrease
Our friend Mark took this picture of a tree frog when he and his wife were visiting the Galapagos Islands. He asked us to paint the frog on canvas so it can be made into a needlepoint chair cushion for their summer house in Maine. We used a woven pattern in the background to simulate a woven seat. We are now creating a multi-colored Galapagos Island grasshopper on canvas for him to place on a matching chair at the house. We'll share the grasshopper photo with you when finished. Photo reproduction on canvas by by Alice Vantrease
This copy on canvas of an old photo shows a beloved husband and son as they stand beside a favorite old car. Won't it be fun to stitch! by Alice Vantrease
A finished rug for the cathedral! This rug will be placed at the foot of the alter in Mary's Chapel at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. It measures 4' x 8' and was lovingly stitched by many members of the Cathedral Needlepoint Guild. Donations are always appreciated by these women as they strive to create or replace the needlepoint pieces there. by Alice Vantrease
Sherrie stitched this precious picture frame for her daughter who is expecting her first child. Sherrie is one of our Augusta customers. Didn't she do a wonderful job! Her daughter is going to love this gift! Design by Alice Vantrease Designs/The Painter
On occasion we are asked to paint large pieces. This needlepoint canvas of "The Creation of Adam" painted by Michelangelo on the ceiling of the Sistene Chapel measures 34" x 78" and was commissioned by a client in Greece for his 87-year-old mother to stitch. It is painted on 10-count penelope canvas. We hope to post a picture of the finished piece some day. Design by Alice Vantrease.
Our friend Britney is attending SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) and created this design as a wedding present for friends. Britney is always full of new ideas and loves putting colors together in new projects. by Britney
Shirley's bag is almost as pretty as she is lovely. Shirley is constantly creating beautiful things in needlepoint. We love this tote bag. Great job, Shirley! Design by Julie Pishke
Shirley loves large projects and this tote bag is yet another example of her expertise in needlepoint. Make sure you look at the other side of the bag in the other picture. Design by Jullie Pishke
Blake will have fun with this canvas depiction of a beloved pet. Her sister-in-law won this custom portrait in a drawing during a home tour at the Landings in Savannah. by Nell Dominguez
Teri was all smiles when she picked up a custom portrait on her pet pooch. She won the canvas at a drawing held at Tailsspin - Savannah's premiere custom pet shop. by Nell Dominguez
We love dogs and the Golden Retriever breed is a favorite. Here is yet another great design created from a photograph of a beloved pet. We don't know if you can see the photo well, but the artwork on the needlepoint canvas catches the pooch's expression exactly. Design by Nell Dominguez for Star Needle Arts.
Zoe belongs to a very special, favorite friend Judy. When Judy shared a Christmas photo of Zoe, we thought it was such a good depiction of a West Highland Terrier we had Nell create a full body and head only canvases for us. They are being added to our Star Needle Arts line and will be available on our web site soon. In the meantime, if you have a favorite pooch, we can create a wonderful custom canvas for you from a photograph. Design by Nell Dominguez for Star Needle Arts.
Our friend May is at it again. She is needlepointing a set of six bird canvases for her son who lives in Seattle. "He has a white sofa," she says, "and I am going to fill it up with pillows." Design by Savannah Designs
Elaine shows off a pillow she created for her daughter in memory of Elaine's father. The pillow says "So this is the living room..." and references Elaine's white living room many years ago when she wouldn't let anyone use it. Elaine's daughter remembers the white living room and her grandfather's humor and asked for the pillow as a momento. Custom design by Savannah Designs
As if six bird pillows weren't enough to stitch, our friend May had us design this pillow featuring a pelican. We like it so well we are adding it to our line of canvases. Design by Savannah Designs
Sally wanted to stitch luggage straps for use in her guest bedroom. She chose colors found in her wallpaper. Her first choice was to do a simple striped design, but after thinking it over -- she decided a plaid would be more fun to stitch. If you would like us to design custom luggage straps for your guest room, just give us a call. Design by Savannah Designs
Isn't it interesting how background color can change the entire personality of a piece. Our friend Judy is having us do six of our birds series with a red and black border. She is going to use them as chair cushions at her vacation condo. She chose to use different oriental patterns on the borders rather than all the same. Her dining room set is black with a lovely jade green sandstone top. These cushions will complement the rest of her decor which is just beautiful. Design by Savannah Designs
Miz B outdid herself on this blue crab pillow. She lost a bid on the plain crab version of the pillow at a charity auction and came into the shop looking for a duplicate. She found this design instead. Didn't she do a wonderful job! Design by Savannah Designs.
Mark had us create a canvas displaying this colorful grasshopper from a photograph he took while visiting the Galapagos Islands. It is a mate to the frog canvas found elsewhere on our brag section. Note the illusion of woven straps as a background design. Both will be finished into chair cushions which he plans to use in his summer home in Maine. Photo reproduction on canvas by Savannah Designs.
Susie wanted to create a pocketbook especially for her daughter and so she did. She says her daughter loves it and will use it for many different occasions. Design by Savannah Designs.
May is afraid of birds but you wouldn't know it by the number of bird pillows she has been stitching lately. Here is a picture of her Egret pillow complete with tassels. Design by Savannah Designs.
Here is another of May's bird pillows. This one features the Ibis. Design by Savannah Designs.
Check out our new frog design. It will be available in the shop soon but is available for pre-ordering now. Design by Savannah Designs.
Our new pelican design received rave reviews when we previewed him in the shop. He will be available soon and we are accepting orders now. Design by Savannah Designs.
This monogram pillow would look terrific on anyone's sofa. Design comes in any letter of the alphabet. We love it and so do our customers. Design by Star Needle Arts
Susie made this cushion for her husband. Instead of the usual square shape, she made it round. Design by Star Needle Arts
Is it Teenie or Tiny? We can't tell because these Chihuahuas look exactly alike. Anyway - it's the one with the red collar. The other has a blue collar. Sue is going to put their pictures on stools so they can look out of the windows at what's going on in Savannah's Historic District. by Star Needle Arts
Pam designed and stitched this chair with her daughters photo. Isn't it fabulous! by Pam Glendenning
This is a back view of Pam's chair. by Pam Glendenning
It took Pam almost six years to complete this chair worked on 14-count tan Zweigert, orange-line mono canvas. Look at the detail in her daughter's face. by Pam Glendenning
Shirley needed a clothes hamper for her dressing room and here is the result. She took a Rosalie design and matched the colors to the wallpaper in her bath. It is backed in ultrasuede. by Rosalie Peters
Shirley also completed a Rosalie rug that matches her bedroom and bath decor. by Rosalie Peters
After seeing Sue working on her runner, Shirley decided to stitch a runner for her back stairs. The bottom step features the sun and moon and the date of Shirley and John' s marraige. Thereafter, each of the six additional steps feature the astrological sign of each child surrounded by stars holding hobby, pet, college and other information. The runner was finished so that it can be taken apart to make individual small rugs in the future so each child can have their step. The design was painted on 13-count, orange-line, mono Zweigert canvas. Shirley also stitched an oriental rug for the base of the stairs. The oriental rug canvas is available through Savannah Designs. by Alice Vantrease
Here is a closeup of two of Shirley's runner steps. by Alice Vantrease
May always gets a laugh from friends when they spy this wall-hanging on the back of her kitchen door.
May displays this pillow in her living room. The egret is admiring its own reflection in the water below. by Savannah Designs
May needed something to fill a large expanse of space between her dining room and den areas. She chose this design by Savannah Designs. The piece can also be used as a piano bench cover. by Savannah Designs
This handsome fox rests beneath a silver chest in May's home. by JP Designs
This pillow is displayed in our shop. by Designing Dogs
This trio of crabs graces the opposite end of May's couch opposite the egret. Design by Lee Needlearts.
Every now and then we get to have fun with a finishing project. We loved adding the mice to the tassels on Gloria's kitty pillow. We were careful to use mice without catnip because we didn't want to tantalize her real kitty into tearing up the tassels.
Hedy and Ray are both avid needlepointers. They are showing us two pieces that they finished recently. Standup Santa by Susan Roberts. Floral brick cover also by Susan Roberts.
Ann finished this trio of stockings for her grandchildren in Connecticut. She used a patterned background stitch not only for effect but to make the stitching flow more quickly.
After finishing individual stockings for each grandchild, Sybil decided to stitch stockings for herself and her husband. What fun.
Gail used many different fibers when stitching this stocking for her husband. Didn't she do a good job!
Laura's daughter is proud of her mother's work on this stocking.
Christine chose this chicken design as a gift for her son. She finished it just in time for Christmas.
While this has nothing to do with needlepoint, we can't resist showing this pretty young girl playing with Scooter and our new pup, Boudreaux. She was waiting for her mom who was choosing needlepoint fibers for a new project.
Sandy wanted to duplicate her granddaughter's prize-winning drawing so we copied it on canvas for her. When finished as a pillow, we added green and white gingham backing and sassy polka dot bows on it.
Our avid stitcher Sue has recently finished a pair of needlepoint chairs for her living room in Savannah's Historic District. This is a front view of the chair. The back features the same colors but a different pattern.
Sue's side chairs feature this design on the back.
Three floral kneelers are also used in Mary's Chapel at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. The one pictured here is the center kneeler. A large floral needlepoint rug is presently being stitched by members of the Cathedral Needlepoint Guild. The background medallions on the pieces represent the stars pictured on the ceiling of the recently renovated cathedral. The rug for Mary's Chapel measures 5' x 8'.
This kneeler represents Advent in the church year. It is one in a series of eight that will be used in Aiken. Advent candles are placed in the center with holly leaves and berries on the sides.
This kneeler will be used on Christmas. It features a red camellia and the Baby Jesus in the manger.
This kneeler represents Common Time or Trinity. The center features fish and bread with sidepieces of ivy.
Yet another kneeler in the Aiken series. The dove symbolizes Pentecost. Roses are placed on either side.
This kneeler represents Lent and is centered with a crown of thorns. Kalmia rhododendron are featured on either side.
Boudreaux, our new poodle puppy, is shown here welcoming Baron Scott Perry into the shop. Baron's mom helps us out on occasion and we couldn't resist taking this picture. Baron is 11 months old and Boudreaux is 8 months old. Baron will continue to grow but Boudreaux has almost reached his full size. Big enough to run the shop and small enough to love every baby that comes through our door.
This kneeler represents Epiphany centered with a four-pointed star in the center and Carolina Yellow Jasmine on either side.
The Easter kneeler is centered with a cross and has pink dogwood and butterflies on either side.
This is a fabulous alphabet rug Nancy stitched for her grand-nephew Jack. You can tell that he likes it a lot. What a great item for a baby's room.
Talk about a needlepoint adventure! Stella has finally finished her Beatrix Potter rug which she began stitching twenty years ago. It's off to the finisher and we'll be posting a photo of the finished product soon. Congratulations, Stella. Well done!
Roberta finished this stocking ahead of time for a new great-grandchild. She has made a tradition of making sure each new baby in her family has a new needlepoint stocking in time for their first Christmas.
Scooter shows off his needlepoint collar while taking a nap in the shop.
Mary Pat loves the Christmas holidays and enjoys stitching ornaments in addition to other needlepoint projects. Here are three she added to her collection this year.
Gloria stitched this glorious stocking for her newest granddaughter. Isn't it beautiful! Since there wasn't room to add a name at the top, we designed a hang tag for her stitch and add to the stocking tab.
Our friend Sally from Baltimore is displaying her first piece of needlepoint. She was visiting the shop a few weeks ago and wanted "something to do." Martha gave her a lesson and now she's really into needlepoint just like the rest of of us. We finished the mini-stocking for her in time for a gift to her daughter and she picked out another mini-stocking and a pillow to work on until she comes back to visit us in the spring. Good job, Sally!
Melinda did a wonderful job on this religious stocking for her granddaughter Caroline who lives in Tennessee. It's too bad we can't highlight the many wonderful specialty stitches she did in interpreting this piece. It is trully a masterpiece.
A good friend gave Karen a stitched canvas of ducks. Because this person didn't like "ducks", the piece had never been finished. Karen brought it in the shop and asked us to make it into a pillow and plans to use it at home and/or at the family farm.
Here is a closeup of Karen's "ducks" pillow. It really is a lovely piece and someone did a terrific job of shading the background while stitching it.
Rose had this kneeler completed in time for Christmas. It was designed as one of a series to be used at St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church on Wilmington Island, Georgia.
Sybil is hiding behind a stocking she stitched this year for her only granddaughter Anna. She enjoyed using Rainbow Gallery's Fluffy Fleece for the trim on Santa's suit. We hope Sybil will show her pretty face next time. Design by Alexa
Here's a closeup of Marcia's stocking. This is the seventh stocking she's stitched in the past couple of years. Design by Alexa
Marcia is admiring the finished stocking she stitched for granddaughter Katie-Grace. We've admired it too along with lots and lots of customers who enjoyed looking at the specialty stitches she used. Design by Alexa
A very special customer lost her precious pet to old age. She asked us to paint a picture of her pup when younger and we did just that. If you wish to have a special pet memorialized by a needlepoint piece, give us a call. Design by Alice Vantrease
Our customer Jane had two side chairs needing recovering. She decided to feature lowcountry wildlife on them. The first design is an ibis. The next is a pelican. When she completes the chairs, we'll feature the pictures here. Design by Alice Vantrease
This is Jane's pelican. She will use this custom design on a side chair once it is stitched. Design by Alice Vantrease

This flora and fauna religious tapestry measures about 3 feet by 5 feet and is one of a pair commissioned by Kathryn Olliff for the First United Methodist Church of Statesboro, Georgia. The pieces have been completed and are now hanging in the narthex of the church. This one is in memory of Catherine's husband Ed. Note the pair of boots to the right of the bottom of the cross. Catherine had these added because she accidentally threw away an old pair of boots he'd kept in the closet for many years. When he discovered the missing boots, he was saddened. "Those boots and God helped me get through WWII", he said. Kathryn felt so badly about it that she wanted them painted on the tapestry to commerate his love of God and country and her sorrow for having thrown them away. Design by Alice Vantrease
This is the second flora and fauna tapestry commissioned by Kathryn Olliff for the First United Methodist Church in Statesboro. It is in honor of her husband's friend W. H. Lovett. Note the wings to the upper left of the cross. They commemorate Mr. Lovett's service in WWII. Design by Alice Vantrease
This tapestry features the flora and fauna surrounding the Savannah area with the Bishop's miter in the center. It now hangs in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. It even has a spot for the lowly cockroach or "palmetto bug" as we call them in the South. After the tapestry was first painted, the late Mrs. Alice Dowling asked Brother Robert if a snake couldn't be added to the piece since the garden of Eden had snakes and Savannah did too. She offered a thousand dollars toward the project if he'd add the serpent. The serpent was added, albeit a green garden snake, and hides in the red rose of the finished tapestry in the Cathdral. The piece measures 3 feet by 5 feet. Design by Alice Vantrease
This precious French Bulldog belongs to a veterinarian in Virginia. Isn't he adorable! Custom design by Alice Vantrease
Here is the finished tapestry hanging in the Cathdral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. A photo of the original canvas appears on this brage page as well. The needlepoint area measures approximately 35" x 58". Design by Alice Vantrease
We have designed many church kneelers throughout the years, but this commission for a Baptist Church is a first. The church is located in Aiken, South Carolina, and is lovely. There is a small kneeler at the center front of the church that is rarely used. The minister wanted a remembrance of his deceased wife and daughter and is having the kneelers designed, stitched and installed in their memory. The kneelers will each depict a church season with one special kneeler for weddings that is pictured here. Designs by Alice Vantrease
Formal wear is definitely still in style in some places. This is one of several cumberbunds designed for a safari groups. by Alice Vantrease
Martha and May are holding up a 3' by 5' rug design originally created at May's request for one of her guest rooms. The design is similar to a rug originally designed for Mary's Chapel in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. While the Cathedral rug was being painted, so many people asked for it that this rug has been added to the Savannah Designs line of needlepoint canvases. It is available on 13-count or 10-count mono canvas. This picture really doesn't do it justice but you can get an idea of the vibrant color in it. Design by Alice Vantrease for Savannah Designs.
Nancy's grand-nephew Jack is a lucky little fellow. She loves to needlepoint items for him. This is a director's chair she stitched long before he could sit in it. Isn't he a cutie! Thanks for sharing this, Nancy. Design by Associated Talents
This photo features the front and back of a doggie coat for a handsome Scottie. Bet worked hard on two of these for her daughter's pets. Design by Designing Dogs.
